From the same remarkable Stoney Vineyard that underpins all Domaine A wines, this is Sauvignon Blanc seen through a slightly richer, more textural lens. The estate, founded by Denis Hill in the late 1970s and now guided by Peter Althaus, has always taken a patient, site driven approach, and Lady A feels like a natural extension of that philosophy, a step up in depth and complexity while still anchored firmly in the Coal River Valley.

This is one of Tasmania’s driest regions, with bright sunlight and long, slow ripening seasons allowing Sauvignon Blanc to build flavour without losing its line. The sandstone and dolerite soils of Stoney Vineyard bring both structure and a subtle mineral edge, and in this cuvée there is often a touch more weight and time on lees, giving the wine a broader, more layered feel.

Pale gold with a hint of green, the aromatics are restrained but detailed. Lemon curd, grapefruit and white peach sit alongside fresh herbs, a whisper of cut grass and a gentle flinty note. There is a quiet richness here, more about depth than overt punch.

The palate opens out with more texture than you might expect from the variety. Citrus and stone fruit glide across a softly rounded frame, supported by fine acidity that keeps everything fresh and focused. There is a savoury edge, a slight creaminess from lees work, and a mineral thread that pulls the finish long and dry. It feels composed and grown up, a Sauvignon Blanc built for the table rather than just a quick chilled glass.

This style works beautifully with food that has a bit of richness and nuance. Seared scallops with browned butter and capers, roast chicken with lemon and thyme, or a goat’s cheese tart with caramelised onion all sit comfortably alongside its texture and acidity.

Drink it now for its balance of freshness and weight, or cellar for five to eight years as it develops more honeyed and savoury complexity.

There is a quiet sophistication here, a wine that reveals itself slowly, shaped by a singular vineyard and a winemaking approach that values patience over immediacy.
