Dark and ripe wine with bright, almost jammy cassis, slightly leafy and balsamic notes, black cherries and cocoa. Full-bodied, velvety due to ripe tannins, crisp acidity and a tight yet balanced finish. Best from 2026.
92 points James Suckling
A little Sicilian mischief makes Sherazade an irresistible introduction to Nero d'Avola. Named after the captivating storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights, this lively red comes from Donnafugata, the Rallo family's celebrated winery founded in 1983. Winemaker Pietro Russo champions the island's native varieties, with vineyards around Contessa Entellina benefiting from warm Mediterranean sunshine, cooling breezes and clay rich soils.
Brilliant ruby red with violet reflections. Juicy black cherry, raspberry and ripe plum mingle with violet, black pepper and a hint of wild herbs. The 2024 vintage is wonderfully fresh and supple, with bright fruit, gentle tannins and a deliciously savoury finish.
Terrific with Sicilian tuna meatballs in tomato sauce, smoky eggplant caponata, or lamb kofta with pomegranate and mint. A slight chill makes it particularly appealing on warmer evenings.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2029. Best enjoyed for its lively fruit and easygoing charm.
