Half Bottle 375ml

A textural, pure and precise red with aromas of cherries, forest berries, dried roses, wet stones and some mild spices. It's medium-bodied with finely grained tannins and fresh acidity, So much verve and class, with a bright red fruit character and a floral dimension to it. There are spices bringing energy and verve. It's infused yet intense, with a restrained character. Chiseled and refined, with a long, silky finish and a spicy accent. Unfiltered. Try after 2027.

97 points James Suckling

Gérard Charvin is one of Châteauneuf du Pape's quiet masters, producing wines that have earned a devoted following among Rhône enthusiasts who value purity, tradition and authenticity. Working from old family vineyards, Charvin follows a remarkably traditional approach, favouring whole bunch fermentation, old concrete vats and large old foudres rather than new oak. The result is a style that places vineyard expression front and centre, capturing the essence of Grenache and the unique character of Châteauneuf du Pape with extraordinary clarity.

The 2021 vintage delivered wines of freshness, perfume and classical balance across the Southern Rhône. Sourced from old vine parcels planted on the appellation's famous galets roulés and sandy soils, this predominantly Grenache based blend showcases the elegance and aromatic complexity of the vintage. The half bottle format offers the added benefit of earlier development, making it an excellent choice for those wanting to enjoy mature characteristics sooner.

Deep ruby garnet in colour, the bouquet is beautifully expressive with aromas of black cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry layered with lavender, dried thyme and rose petals. As the wine opens, notes of licorice, spice, forest floor and garrigue emerge, adding depth and intrigue. The palate is silky and refined, delivering vibrant red and dark berry fruits supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. Savoury herbal notes and subtle mineral nuances build through the finish, which lingers with elegance and precision.

A superb match for herb roasted lamb, duck confit, Provençal vegetable dishes, pork loin with rosemary or wild mushroom ragù. Already showing wonderful accessibility, this Châteauneuf du Pape will continue to develop additional complexity over the next decade, particularly in the half bottle format.
