It’s a 79% and 21% Shiraz and Cabernet blend from the Barossa. In both cases the fruit comes off a mix of 30 year to more than 100 year old vines from the Ebenezer subregion of the Barossa. The concentration and intensity of the fruit has enabled Glaetzer to use all new oak with a mix of mostly French and 8% American. The fruit was excellent but the craftsmanship to draw the best out of it is superb. Balanced and poised with that subregional rusty iron filings character a distinctive enhancing influence.
There’s a beautiful but not overplayed sweetness on the palate with the fine chalky tannins working precisely.

Ben Glaetzer does the great Aussie blend well, consistently offering a polished, contemporary take on the very popular wine style. It’s a deeply fruited affair, all cassis, blackberry and black cherry tones with impressive weight, depth and purity. It’s not a wine for the oak-shy, as the cedar and vanilla tones make their presence felt, but all that fruit just sucks it up like a greedy Labrador. Finishing bold with tight, compact powdery tannin and cassis leaving the impression that this will cellar like a champion.

79% Shiraz / 21% Cabernet Sauvignon

A deep purple core with a ’rosella’ red rim transforms to garnet with time in bottle, A combination of dark berries is complimented by fresh thyme, dried  anise and cardamom. The structural integrity of the Cabernet Sauvignon supports a core of pure Shiraz fruit. A dense palate is composed of a multitude of dark berries, currants and plums. The delightfully long finish is a calling card of each vintage of this wine.
A wine that will mature extremely well with long term cellaring through to 2040 and beyond.

The Glaetzer family has been a part the Barossa Valley and its viticulture history since 1888. After 30 years in winemaking, Colin Glaetzer established the family winery to create wines he’s passionate about – limited quantities of benchmark Barossa Valley reds. Today, son Ben carries on with this winemaking tradition with Glatzer wines.

A quintessential Australian blend of shiraz and cabernet, this is a brooding wine of considerable chutzpah manifest in old vine fruit, sourced from 30yo to centurion plots, across the famed Ebenezer sub-climate. The result is bumptious, yet in the Barossan context, refined, taut, long of finish and highly ageable. Soy, star anise and dried fruitcake spice lace high octane blue to dark fruit references. These are lit by lilac florals and smoky barrel ferment aromas, following 16 months in new hogsheads (92% French; the remainder American). Bottled unfiltered to ensure minimal intervention with the wine’s natural characteristics.
