More elegant than powerful, with precise aromas of redcurrants, dried flowers and licorice root. Graceful, medium-bodied palate with grainy yet ripe tannins, crisp acidity and a long, savory finish. Try from 2026.
93 points Aldo Fiordelli for James Suckling
The Lodali family have been part of Piedmont's winemaking landscape for generations, with Valter and Monica Lodali continuing a tradition built on respect for vineyard character and classic Langhe varieties. Based in Treiso, the family has earned a reputation for wines that balance accessibility with authenticity, showcasing some of the region's finest sites with a light touch in the cellar.
Bricco Ambrogio is one of the standout vineyards of Roddi, a small Barolo commune celebrated for producing wines of perfume, finesse and earlier approachability than some of its more powerful neighbours. The calcareous clay soils and favourable exposure allow Nebbiolo to ripen beautifully while retaining the elegance and aromatic complexity that make Barolo so captivating.
The colour is a brilliant garnet red with youthful ruby highlights. Aromas of rose petals, red cherry and wild strawberry rise from the glass alongside orange peel, liquorice and sweet spice. The palate is beautifully composed, combining vibrant red fruits with silky tannins and fresh acidity. Layers of tar, dried herbs and earthy complexity build with air, while the finish remains long, savoury and unmistakably Barolo.
A magnificent partner for truffle risotto, braised beef cheek, duck ragù with pappardelle or porcini mushroom dishes. While already approachable with careful decanting, the structure and pedigree suggest graceful development through the 2040s and beyond.
