La Morra is often described as the most elegant commune of Barolo, producing Nebbiolo with perfume, finesse and remarkable balance. Marcarini has been part of this landscape since the mid nineteenth century, with the family deeply rooted in La Morra’s historic vineyards. Today the estate is led by Elisa Marcarino, continuing a tradition of wines that highlight terroir and classic Barolo character. The Barolo Comune di La Morra DOCG draws fruit from several parcels across the commune, capturing the distinctive marl soils and favourable exposures that give the wines their refined structure.
The colour shows the classic garnet tone associated with Nebbiolo, edged with ruby reflections. Aromatically the wine is beautifully lifted, opening with rose petal, red cherry and wild strawberry before revealing layers of liquorice, dried herbs and subtle spice. Gentle notes of tobacco and forest floor appear with air, adding complexity.
The structure reflects the graceful side of Barolo, combining vibrant red fruit with firm yet polished tannins and bright acidity. Flavours of dried cherry, cranberry and savoury herbs develop through the wine, supported by a mineral backbone that brings length and focus. The finish is persistent and elegant, carrying floral and earthy nuances typical of La Morra.
Slow braised beef, truffle risotto, roast duck or aged Parmigiano Reggiano work beautifully with this style. With its balance of fruit, tannin and acidity, Marcarini Barolo Comune di La Morra will continue to develop for fifteen to twenty years, gradually revealing deeper savoury complexity.
