A stunning Eden Valley dry riesling with a cornucopia of citrus, pineapple and white nectarine, plus flint, gunpowder and a hint of petrol. So concentrated, but this is all packed into a very sleek silhouette. Fantastic elegance at the very long wet-stone and lime finish. A joint venture of Jeffrey Grosset and Robert Hill-Smith. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Grosset and Hill Smith continue with their famed riesling project, where not much has shifted in 20-odd years, and dammit, why should it, Mike? Classic riesling done reliably well, once a benchmark of sorts but now it feels brought back into the ranks a bit. What does 2021 hold?..
Scents of ripe lemon, faint oatmeal, halva and the icing off a finger bun. Citrus and savoury-sweet, is the deal. Flavours are more keenly bound to zingy lime juice, pulpy grapefruit, a steely minerality with light chalky pucker in tow. Crunchy texture, crisp as can be finish, a very refreshing, heavily acid driven style with an almost icy freshness going on. Nicely done, and will reward the acid hounds amongst us.
