2021 Paxton Queen of the Hive Red Blend, McLaren Vale

This is an intriguing blend of 54/21/18/7% shiraz/grenache/mataro/cabernet, although it is not noted on the label. Rightly so. After all, the sum of this ersatz field blend is far greater than the contribution of each part. Younger vines. Tank fermented with a smidgeon of older wood. Reductive at first whiff, before teeming blue and red fruits brushed with verdant garden herb and tobacco drive long. Leather, a note of charcuterie and juicy pastille notes define the finish. Effortless drinking.
