The 2021 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is aged in used oak and then 30% in Wineglobes. This has what you might call more Pinoté on the nose than the Chambertin: beautifully defined red fruit, touches of white tipped strawberry and white tea, the whole bunches (20%) seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiselled tannins, fresh and vibrant, quite saline, maybe just losing a little depth and body in its final furlongs due to the growing season exerting into limitations. Yet it remains a finely crafted Clos-de-Bèze. Drink 2026-2048

An equally fine imperial purple. Christophe Perrot-Minot likes to serve this last because he finds it more subtle and more ethereal. Certainly this is less about the weight and more about the detail. The acidity harmonises very well and the fruit is accompanied by mineral touches. Very graceful long finish just freshened up by a touch of citrus. Stylistically different, but in the end I cannot differentiate in sheer quality between this and the Chambertin. Drink from 2029-2039.
