The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru is aged in used barrels and then 30% in Wineglobes. This has a little reduction on the nose; touches of white pepper and sous-bois unfurl nicely with each swirl of the glass, though I discern more energy on the Mazoyères at the moment. The palate is very harmonious with sappy red fruit, white pepper and light blood orange notes. Vibrant and energetic, this has a very poised but quite penetrating finish. Excellent, but it needs 3-5 years in bottle. Drink 2026-2048

Clearly an imperial purple colour and I haven’t been able to say that elsewhere this year! A light reduction on the nose. There is a majesty to this albeit with quite a high line of acidity running through. This will need quite a few years. The tension is immaculate, and so too the fruit quality. Drink from 2030-2040.

Age of the vines : 50-52 years old Chambertin is among the top 5 best grands crus in Burgundy. Its central position on a slightly sloping, moderately cool and windy hill gives the wine a unique texture. It faces east. This deep substratum is finely covered with limestone scree and silt which have settled for millenaries and which agriculture has mixed for many centuries.
