(Note: 0.8Ha planted in 1971 from the top of the vineyard, just below Rousseau’s Chambertin.)‘The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is aged in wood until malo and then 30% sees a Wineglobe. This sports a bit of reduction, yet despite this, I discern more complexity vis-a-vis the GriottesChambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, sappy red fruit, lovely structure and harmony with impressive body on the finish. This is a very classy, finely-chiselled Charmes-Chamberting that should give 20 years of pleasure or more. Drink 2026-2045

A much denser purple than the Griotte. Quite a heavyweight nose. A fairly sumptuous deep red fruit, with some peony notes, fresh white peppers. Brooding and backward. Some tannins wound in, a little coconut, presumably from the wood, but a wine of significant substance. Drink from 2028-2036.
