39/34/17/10% merlot/malbec/cabernet franc/petit verdot. It’s a little ripper and such good value. Not for cellaring but for drinking now thanks to its juiciness, its freshness, its upfront fruit with spice and lots of earthy tones in the mix. Tannins gravelly and a little rustic, acidity bright; nothing else to do other than find the right food match.

Rocky Gully Cabernet from Frankland River is a vibrant and approachable expression of Cabernet Sauvignon crafted by the team at Frankland Estate. Known for their organic vineyard practices and deep understanding of the region, they deliver a wine that reflects both the purity of fruit and the structure that makes Frankland River such a standout area for Cabernet.
The region's gravelly ironstone soils and cool climate allow for a long ripening season, helping the fruit retain bright acidity while developing fine tannins and deep aromatic complexity. Rocky Gully is made with the same care as the estate's flagship wines but is intended for earlier drinking and easy enjoyment.
In the glass, it bursts with aromas of blackcurrant, mulberry, plum and bay leaf, supported by subtle notes of tobacco leaf and graphite. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied with soft yet present tannins and a juicy core of dark fruit layered with hints of cocoa and dried herbs. There's a distinct earthiness and regional lift that keeps the wine lively and balanced from start to finish.
Perfect with roast lamb, beef tacos, grilled mushrooms or a rich lentil stew. It is a flexible and food-friendly wine that is equally at home on a weeknight or at a casual dinner with friends. Best enjoyed now or over the next three to five years.
