Dark purple hues with a ruby outer rim lead toa bouquet of ripeness and richness, aromas of dark berries and roasted plums, a dark raspberry almost jammy quality then smoky earth, a touch of boot polish wood smoke. Fleshy, fruity, varietal and dry on the palate. All the fruit scents turn into flavour on the palate set in a silky frame with fine polished tannins and medium+ acid line. A lovely example, balanced and well made with best drinking from day of purchase through 2030+.

When a shiraz is priced keenly, grown in a region making superfine examples and made by a producer who is top-notch, well, the wine will be too. This is awash with dark plums, licorice and baking spices, menthol and plump, ripe tannins, plus plenty of acidity. It’s fuller bodied but not too big, just a little alcohol warmth on the finish – with food, less obvious.

Rocky Gully Shiraz from Frankland River delivers exceptional value, offering cool-climate elegance and regional character at an everyday price. Made by the team at Frankland Estate, one of Western Australia’s most respected and sustainability-focused producers, this Shiraz captures the balance, spice and finesse that the Great Southern region is known for.
Frankland River’s granite-based soils and long, temperate growing season allow Shiraz to ripen slowly, developing flavour without excessive alcohol or heaviness. The fruit is sourced from estate and neighbouring vineyards, fermented in small batches and matured in older French oak to preserve brightness and purity.
In the glass, it opens with black cherry, plum and blueberry aromas, layered with white pepper, dried herbs and a touch of earth. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, showing vibrant dark fruit, gentle spice and silky tannins. There's a savoury edge and a clean, persistent finish that makes it highly food-friendly and easy to enjoy now.
Perfect with grilled sausages, Moroccan lamb, mushroom pizza or a smoky eggplant and lentil stew. Also excellent with a sharp cheddar or a casual Friday night barbecue. Drink now or over the next 3 to 5 years.
