Terra Sancta has quickly become one of Central Otago's most exciting producers, with the Hall family building a reputation for wines that capture the dramatic landscapes and distinct subregions of Bannockburn. The estate's vineyards sit amongst some of New Zealand's oldest vines, with a strong focus on sustainable farming and expressing the individuality of each site.

Slapjack takes its name from the hardy rabbiters who once worked the rugged hills of Bannockburn, a nod to the pioneering spirit that still defines this remarkable part of Central Otago. The vineyards are planted on the region's famous schist and gravel soils, where hot summer days and cool nights create Pinot Noir of intensity, perfume and structure.

The colour is a brilliant ruby red with youthful crimson highlights. Aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry and plum leap from the glass alongside notes of thyme, five spice and dried herbs. The palate is rich yet beautifully composed, layering dark and red berry fruits over silky tannins and bright acidity. Hints of cocoa, earth and Central Otago's distinctive wild herb character emerge on the finish, which remains long, savoury and wonderfully persistent.

A superb companion for duck breast, venison loin, mushroom pappardelle or roast lamb with rosemary and garlic. Drinking beautifully now with a decant, while the balance and structure suggest excellent cellaring potential through to the mid 2030s.
