Light, bright yellow with a complex and fresh, youthful bouquet that features lemon/citrus, cashew-nut, plus subtle notes of shortbread, malt and almond-meal, the acidity seamless, adding a refreshing note on the aftertaste which is very long and emphatic. A stunning chardonnay, refined, tensioned, very long and promising even more in the future. 25 FEB 2023 Drink 2023–2033

Gosh, these Trait wines are super. New wines for me, although off a vineyard planted in 1988, so I’m still working out the expression of fruit versus winemaker and of course, site. While oak is making more of an impact here – the wine is in barrel for 11 months (one-third new), adding a slippery texture and lots of woodsy spices, the fruit handles it. It’s also the long line of acidity that pulls all the flavours into line and keeps this thrillingly good. Classy stuff.
