Velenosi Rosso Piceno Superiore DOC Il Brecciarolo is a bold and polished red from the hills of the Marche region, blending Montepulciano and Sangiovese into a wine that captures both richness and finesse. The name Il Brecciarolo refers to the gravelly limestone soils of the vineyards, which sit at altitude near the town of Ascoli Piceno, offering warm days, cool nights and perfect ripening conditions.
Winemaker Angela Velenosi has played a key role in bringing Marche wines to international attention, combining tradition with a modern sensibility. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to retain purity of fruit, followed by maturation in a mix of French oak barrels and large Slavonian casks to enhance structure and complexity.
In the glass, Il Brecciarolo shows ripe blackberry, dark cherry, plum and violet, wrapped in layers of leather, spice and mocha. The palate is generous but well defined, with velvety tannins, bright acidity and a long, savoury finish. Montepulciano provides weight and richness, while Sangiovese adds lift and elegance.
Pair it with wild boar ragu, rosemary lamb, porcini risotto or hard sheep’s milk cheese. It drinks beautifully now but will hold for another 5 to 8 years.
