Arnaud Baillot’s Meursault draws from a patchwork of village parcels, bringing together that classic balance of richness and tension the appellation is known for. Working with a gentle hand and a focus on purity, Baillot keeps things precise, letting the natural generosity of Meursault come through without becoming heavy.
The 2022 opens with a warm, inviting profile. Ripe pear, white peach and citrus peel sit alongside toasted hazelnut, a hint of buttered brioche and a soft touch of spice. There’s a subtle flinty edge underneath, but it’s more about texture and breadth here.
With a bit of air, it starts to broaden. A touch of citrus curd, almond and something faintly savoury builds in the background, adding layers without overwhelming the fruit.
There’s a smooth, flowing feel to it. Fruit sits comfortably through the middle, supported by a gentle creaminess from lees, while acidity keeps everything in check, stopping it from becoming too rich. The finish lingers on citrus oil, nuts and a soft mineral line.
This is where you can lean into comforting but flavour packed dishes. Think roast chicken with garlic and thyme, a veal schnitzel with lemon and capers, or even a pumpkin and sage risotto. It also works beautifully with dishes like grilled corn with butter and lime or a creamy leek and potato tart where the wine’s texture and freshness find balance.
Drinking beautifully now, though it will build more nutty, savoury layers over the next six to ten years.
