2022 Bollini Merlot DOC, Trentino-Alto Adige

Bollini Merlot DOC from Trentino-Alto Adige is a polished, fruit-forward red that captures the alpine freshness and understated elegance of northern Italy. This is Merlot with lift and finesse rather than heavy extraction, offering supple texture, bright acidity and a clean, balanced finish. It’s a wine made for everyday enjoyment, but crafted with care and regional character in mind.

Grown in the foothills of the Dolomites, the grapes benefit from a cool climate and well-drained, alluvial soils that help maintain freshness and aromatic clarity. Fermentation is in stainless steel, followed by a short period of ageing in oak barrels to add subtle roundness without overpowering the fruit.

Aromas include red cherry, plum, violet, and a touch of cedar and spice. On the palate, it is medium bodied and smooth, with flavours of ripe raspberry, blackcurrant, soft herbs and a hint of cocoa. Tannins are gentle and silky, and there is enough acidity to keep the finish clean and food friendly.

Food pairing: pairs well with roast chicken, grilled pork tenderloin, mushroom risotto, lasagne or a simple tomato and herb pasta. Also great with charcuterie, pizza or semi-hard cheeses.

Cellar potential: best enjoyed young to capture its fruit and freshness, though it will hold well for 3 to 5 years.
