2022 Bream Creek Cuvee Traditionelle, South East Tasmania

From one of Tasmania’s earliest modern vineyards, this traditional method sparkling wine reflects the cool, maritime precision that defines the state’s best fizz. Bream Creek sits on Tasmania’s east coast, exposed to clean ocean air, long daylight hours and a marginal climate that preserves acidity and builds delicate flavour. The Cuvée Traditionelle is crafted in the classic Champagne mould, built on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with extended time on lees adding texture and complexity while keeping the wine bright and mineral.

The philosophy here is patience. Slow ripening fruit and careful bottle ageing allow fine bubbles and layered flavour to develop naturally. Rather than chasing overt richness, the style leans toward elegance, structure and length, letting Tasmania’s cool climate speak clearly.

In the glass it shows pale gold with a persistent, fine bead. Aromas are fresh and inviting, opening with lemon zest, green apple and white peach, followed by brioche, almond and a faint sea spray note that hints at its coastal origin. There is a clean, chalky freshness that runs through the bouquet.

The palate is crisp and finely textured, with citrus and orchard fruit wrapped in creamy mousse and bright acidity. Lees ageing brings subtle toast and nutty depth, but the wine remains driven by freshness and mineral tension. The finish is dry, precise and lingering, leaving impressions of lemon, brioche and saline lift.

It is a natural partner for oysters, prawns, sashimi, soft cheeses, roast chicken and anything fried or salty. It also works beautifully as an aperitif where its precision and fine bubbles shine. Drinking beautifully now for its energy and balance, it will continue to develop toasty complexity over five to eight years.
