Dark in colour. Soft, juicy, velvety tannins. An approachable and well-balanced vintage of Coudoulet that should age well thanks to its tannic finesse, acidity and freshness. Though it is quite a tannic vintage, so give it some time. Drink: 2026 - 2034 92

Coudoulet de Beaucastel has long been one of the Southern Rhône's great value reds, sharing much of the character of its famous neighbour, Château de Beaucastel. The Perrin family's vineyards lie just east of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape boundary, where the same rounded stones and Mediterranean climate produce wines of richness, structure and wonderful savoury complexity. The 2022 is a particularly appealing release, combining the warmth of the vintage with the estate's characteristic freshness.
A traditional blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault, Coudoulet benefits from organically farmed vineyards and careful winemaking. Mourvèdre contributes structure and earthy complexity, while Grenache provides generous fruit and Syrah adds spice and depth.
Deep ruby red with purple highlights. Black cherry, ripe raspberry and plum mingle with liquorice, cracked pepper and fragrant thyme. The palate is supple and concentrated, with juicy dark fruit, fine tannins and a lovely savoury edge. Notes of black olive, dried herbs and gentle spice carry through a long, satisfying finish.
Try it with slow cooked lamb shoulder and preserved lemon, smoky eggplant with spiced chickpeas or Spanish pork and paprika meatballs. Equally delicious with a rustic mushroom and rosemary tart.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2035. Its fine tannins and balanced acidity should reward several years of ageing, developing additional earthy and savoury complexity.
