Dense licorice and forest berry aromas mask the deep tannin structure of this Chateauneuf-du-Pape masterpiece. Full-bodied but with a lightness of touch. Then the power and stony intensity pour over you in a giant wave. The freshness is extraordinary for this hot and dry vintage. Serious tannins in the very long, compact and refined finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.

Château de Beaucastel is one of the great estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with the Perrin family producing some of the Southern Rhône's most distinctive and ageworthy wines. Renowned for its organic farming and use of all thirteen traditional grape varieties, Beaucastel has a character all its own, combining Mediterranean richness with remarkable elegance. The 2023 is a beautifully composed vintage, with depth, fragrance and the structure to reward patient cellaring.
Mourvèdre plays a particularly important role in the blend, alongside Grenache, Syrah and the other permitted varieties. The estate's famous rounded stones and varied soils help produce concentrated fruit, while careful winemaking preserves freshness and the savoury complexity that defines Beaucastel.
Deep ruby red with violet highlights. Black cherry, ripe blackberry and dark plum mingle with lavender, liquorice, black olive and cracked pepper. The palate is rich yet beautifully balanced, with succulent dark fruit, finely structured tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of dried thyme, earthy spice and a hint of leather carry through a long, savoury finish.
Try it with Persian lamb and aubergine stew, grilled portobello mushrooms with miso and thyme, or duck breast with a spiced plum glaze. A wine that deserves a memorable dinner and good company.
Cellaring: Drink 2029 to 2048+. The concentration and Mourvèdre driven structure promise exceptional ageing potential.
