Dr. H. Thanisch is one of the Mosel's most historic and respected estates, with a winemaking heritage dating back centuries in the heart of Bernkastel. The family has long been recognised for producing Rieslings of exceptional purity, finesse and longevity, and few vineyard holdings are more prized than the legendary Bernkasteler Doctor. Revered as one of Germany's greatest vineyard sites, it consistently produces wines that combine intensity, elegance and remarkable ageing potential.
The 2022 vintage delivered Rieslings of superb balance and clarity, perfectly suited to the Bernkasteler Doctor terroir. The vineyard's steep slopes of blue Devonian slate capture and retain warmth, encouraging slow ripening while preserving freshness and aromatic complexity. The resulting Spätlese balances generous fruit richness with vibrant acidity, creating a wine of both immediate appeal and long term cellaring potential.
Pale gold with brilliant green reflections, the bouquet is captivating, revealing aromas of white peach, apricot and ripe nectarine alongside lime blossom, mandarin and crushed slate. As the wine evolves in the glass, hints of jasmine, honeycomb and citrus zest emerge, adding depth and sophistication. The palate is beautifully layered, offering succulent stone fruit, lime and green apple flavours supported by lively acidity and a striking mineral backbone. The finish is long, precise and elegant, lingering with notes of citrus, honey and wet slate.
This is a superb partner for lobster, spicy Thai seafood dishes, roast duck with orange glaze, pork belly or a creamy blue cheese. Equally rewarding on its own, it showcases the magical balance of sweetness, acidity and minerality that makes great Mosel Spätlese so irresistible.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2050.
