The Loosen family have farmed the steep slate slopes of the Mosel for more than two centuries, with Ernst Loosen transforming the estate into one of Germany's most recognised and respected names. His commitment to old vines, traditional methods and vineyard expression has helped redefine what great Riesling can achieve.
Graacher Himmelreich, meaning "Kingdom of Heaven", is one of the Mosel's most celebrated vineyards, sitting on dramatic blue slate slopes above the village of Graach. The site is renowned for producing Rieslings of elegance and charm, combining the delicacy of the Mosel with remarkable concentration and ageing potential.
The colour is a brilliant pale straw with youthful green highlights. Aromas of lime blossom, green apple and white peach drift from the glass alongside jasmine, fresh herbs and crushed slate. The palate is beautifully poised, balancing ripe citrus and orchard fruit flavours with delicate sweetness and vibrant acidity. Notes of nectarine and mandarin emerge through the mid palate, while the finish remains long, refreshing and wonderfully mineral.
A magnificent match for fresh prawns with chilli and lime, spicy Thai dishes, sushi, roast pork with crackling or a classic apple tart. Delicious in its youth and equally capable of rewarding patient cellaring over the next fifteen years and beyond.
