This needs a moment’s aeration for the fine stone fruit aromas to emerge. Stunning concentration and succulence, but also impeccable balance this is a great Mosel GG that will give so much pleasure in the years to come. In spite of everything there is a lovely delicacy at the finish. Drinkable from release, but best from 2024.

Loosen's 2022 Wehlener Sonnenuhr GG Alte Reben shows a clear, fine-scented and surprisingly cool nose. The palate is juicy, elegant, spicy and, again delicate, but with the concentration and density of the old vines. It is pleasant and elegant, as if there had been no stress in the hot and abnormally dry summer of 2022. Tasted as a sample in Wiesbaden at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in August 2023.

Though Dr Loosen has been in the same family for over 200 years it is the inimitable current owner Ernst Loosen who really put them on the world wine map.
After taking over the reins in 1988 he changed up the viticulture and winemaking, so as to make the very best of the outstanding vineyards at his disposal; reducing yields and moving to organic practices.
Located in far Western Germany, the Mosel valley’s steep, southfacing slopes create the perfect climate for Riesling, giving the vines ideal exposure to the sun. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining bright acidity. The "Sundial of Wehlen" is one of the greatest vineyards in the Middle Mosel. The soil is almost nothing but broken shards of blue Devonian slate, which gives a lively minerality to the wines.
