Gold Mundus Vini Spring Tasting 2025
Best of Show Sicily Red
Feudo Arancio Nero d'Avola from Sicily is a bold, sun-drenched red that captures the warmth and intensity of southern Italy’s signature grape. Grown on the estate’s sustainably farmed vineyards in the southwest of the island, this wine is all about ripe fruit, soft tannins and Mediterranean character. Nero d’Avola thrives in Sicily’s dry climate, and Feudo Arancio’s version balances richness with freshness, making it both approachable and food friendly.
The grapes are harvested at peak ripeness, then fermented in stainless steel and aged partly in oak to add a touch of spice and roundness. The result is a smooth, generous wine with depth and vibrancy.
The nose opens with aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry, plum, and hints of vanilla and sweet spice. On the palate, it’s medium to full bodied, offering juicy dark fruit, cocoa, dried herbs and soft tannins. There’s a gentle earthiness and a touch of balsamic that speaks of its Sicilian roots, finishing warm and smooth.
Food pairing: perfect with grilled lamb, baked pasta, eggplant parmigiana, or sausage and fennel pizza. Also excellent with aged pecorino, meatballs in tomato sauce or herbed roast chicken.
Cellar potential: best enjoyed now for its plush fruit, but can age gracefully for 4 to 6 years, gaining savoury depth and complexity.
