High in the hills above Greve in Chianti, the tiny hamlet of Lamole has long been regarded as one of Tuscany's most distinctive homes for Sangiovese. Its elevated vineyards, cooler temperatures and sandstone rich soils produce wines of fragrance and finesse rather than sheer power. Through the Filetta di Lamole project, the Manetti family of Fontodi has captured the elegance and individuality of this remarkable corner of Chianti Classico.

While Fontodi is best known for its celebrated vineyards in Panzano's Conca d'Oro, Giovanni Manetti recognised the unique potential of Lamole's higher altitude sites and their ability to produce a more perfumed and refined expression of Sangiovese. The excellent 2022 vintage delivered fruit with superb aromatic purity and freshness, allowing the vineyard character to shine through with remarkable clarity.

Bright ruby red in colour, the bouquet is wonderfully lifted, revealing aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange layered with violet, dried herbs and delicate spice. As the wine opens, hints of tea leaf, cedar and earthy nuances emerge, adding complexity and intrigue. The palate is medium bodied and beautifully poised, delivering vibrant red fruits supported by silky tannins and lively acidity. There is an almost Burgundian elegance to the wine, with freshness and mineral detail carrying through to a long, graceful finish.

This is a magnificent companion for wild mushroom pappardelle, grilled lamb cutlets, porcini risotto, wood fired pizza or aged Pecorino Toscano. Already immensely enjoyable, it has the balance and pedigree to develop beautifully over the coming decade.
