The Fratelli Alessandria 2022 Barolo del Comune di Verduno captures the floral finesse and spice that have become signatures of this village. The bouquet offers violet, peppery exotic flower, redcurrant and dried boysenberry with subtle hints of lavender and rosemary essence. The wine is streamlined and linear in the mouth, delivering a tonic sense of freshness and graceful intensity rather than sheer power. First introduced with the 2017 vintage, the wine captures Verduno's distinctive personality with its floral lift and near-term approachability. Wines from 2022 tend to be leaner overall. Drawn from five vineyards across the village, total production comes to 16,000 bottles.

Scheduled to be bottled in January 2026, the 2022 Barolo Del Comune di Verduno pours a bright ruby hue and is highly perfumed with delicate rustic notes alongside Bing cherries, roses, spice, and stony earth. Medium-bodied, it has appealing sweet tannins, balanced acidity, and good clarity throughout. This charming and expressive Barolo should drink well over the coming decade. 15,000 bottles expected. The Alessandria family has been making wine in Verduno since the nineteenth century, and today Fratelli Alessandria is recognised as one of Barolo's finest traditional estates. Vittore Alessandria and his family have helped bring renewed attention to Verduno, a village celebrated for producing some of the appellation's most fragrant and elegant Nebbiolo. Their Barolo del Comune di Verduno is a beautiful introduction to this distinctive style.
Sourced from vineyards within the Verduno commune, the 2022 reflects the warmth of the vintage while retaining the floral perfume and finesse that make these wines so appealing. Traditional winemaking allows Nebbiolo's natural structure and the character of Verduno's soils to take centre stage.
Bright garnet red with ruby highlights. Wild cherry, raspberry and red plum mingle with rose petals, dried orange peel, anise and a hint of sweet tobacco. The palate is finely structured, with vibrant red fruit, refreshing acidity and beautifully integrated, persistent tannins. Notes of liquorice, crushed herbs and earthy spice carry through a long, fragrant finish.
Try it with porcini and truffle tajarin, duck with cherries and balsamic, or roasted beetroot with lentils and aged Parmesan. Its floral character and savoury depth are particularly lovely alongside Piedmontese dishes featuring mushrooms and hazelnuts.
Cellaring: Drink 2028 to 2042+. Approachable with decanting in its youth, but patience will reveal greater complexity and beautifully softened tannins.
