As to the Grand Vin 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape, it's a beautiful example of the vintage and has a perfumed, complex style in its mostly red fruits, peppery garrigue, orange blossom, and potpourri-like aromas and flavors. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, it's beautifully balanced and has ultra-fine, polished tannins and a great finish. It's already impossible to resist, and while I see no need to delay gratification, it will have 10-15 years of longevity given its balance and nicely integrated structure.

Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a benchmark expression of traditional Southern Rhône winemaking, crafted with incredible purity and finesse by Laurent Charvin, who has been at the helm of this historic estate since the early 1990s. The domaine has been in the Charvin family for generations, but it was Laurent’s decision to bottle under his own label that helped bring this hidden gem to international acclaim.
The estate’s vineyards lie in the cooler, northwestern sector of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, planted on a mix of galets roulés, sand, and limestone. The wine is almost entirely Grenache, with small amounts of Mourvèdre, Syrah and Vaccarèse. There’s no destemming and no new oak, just whole bunches fermented in concrete and aged in neutral tanks to highlight the purity of fruit and terroir.
In the glass, Charvin Châteauneuf is bright and lifted, with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, garrigue, blood orange and pepper. The palate is silky and energetic, balancing ripeness with freshness. Tannins are fine and chalky, acidity is vibrant, and the finish is long and layered with spice, herbs and crushed rock.
This wine is beautiful young for its vibrancy and perfume but has the structure to cellar gracefully for 10 to 15 years. Pair it with duck breast, slow-cooked lamb, roasted vegetables or aged hard cheeses.
