Moderate wood sets off slightly ripe yet still attractively fresh aromas of red cherry, dark currant and a whiff of smoked meat. The richer if slightly less vibrant and stony medium weight flavors possess a highly beguiling texture before culminating in a beautifully persistent and balanced finale.

Gérard Julien Armand Côtes de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges is a heartfelt cuvée that bridges family tradition with the evolving precision of modern Burgundy. Named after Armand Julien, a respected elder in the Julien lineage, this wine is crafted by Etienne Julien with a clear focus on authenticity, balance and expression of site. While it carries the Côtes de Nuits-Villages designation, it’s grown and made in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and very much reflects the character of this iconic village.
The fruit comes from estate-owned plots near Comblanchien, just south of Nuits, where the soils are clay-limestone with excellent drainage and mineral structure. Etienne farms organically and vinifies with wild yeasts, keeping new oak use modest and allowing the fruit to speak. There's no fining or filtration, keeping the wine honest and textural.
In the glass, Armand is generous and finely structured. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, dried rose, and a dusting of spice lead into a palate that’s supple yet energetic. Silky tannins frame the fruit, while a streak of salinity and cool-earth minerality adds drive and length. It’s a wine that over-delivers on both charm and precision.
Delicious with coq au vin, duck rillettes, or grilled field mushrooms with herbs. It’s approachable now with a decant, but will evolve beautifully over 5 to 8 years.
