Some pretty serious Barossa fruit has gone into this terrific value for money high quality blend. Shiraz is between 50 and 80 years old, and the Grenache up to 100. It’s produced a wine of immense vibrancy and liveliness, with bright red fruit, lifted florals and a trace of peppery energy seamlessly integrated with fine tannin and oak support. A wine of purity and finesse, with just a hint of vanillin oak to finish. Drink to 2035.

A blend of 75/25% shiraz/grenache sourced from of the northern subregion of Ebenezer. Deep magenta/crimson in the glass with rich aromas of juicy dark plum, blackberry and black cherry fruits with a scattering of crushed herb, baking spices, violets, coal dust, pan juices, cedar, fruitcake and earth. There's plenty of fruit presence for the price here; bright acidity, too, and it tastes of the Barossa which is all we need to know.

The 2022 Wallace Shiraz Grenache is a bright, spicy little thing, with black fruit and exotic spice in profusion. The acid and tannins clash a little through the finish, listing the wine toward graphite, aniseed, clove, etc., but otherwise, this is straightforward and pleasing. Drink to 2030.

The Glaetzer family has been a part Barossa’s viticultural history since 1888, and Ben Glaetzer produces some of the most recognised wines of the region from dry-grown vineyards in the Ebenezer area. Working with a small group of third and fourth generation growers, his rich, intense and expressive wines are for many the epitome of Barossa in the glass.

The 2022 Wallace is a 75/25 blend of Ebenezer fruit from 50–80-year-old Shiraz and 50–100-year-old Grenache vines, with Shiraz maturing for 16 months in seasoned oak hogsheads of primarily French origin, supplemented by 20% American oak. Meanwhile, oak contact was kept minimal for the Grenache, aiming to capture the liveliness and structure to preserve the lively, animated character of the fruit.
