The gum leaf characters are strong here, so strong that it takes effort to see through to the fruit. Once you do, there's boysenberry, menthol, redcurrant and cedar characters to tuck into, with hay, dust and slightly confected notes hovering roundabouts. Different – that's what this wine is.

Heirloom Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra is a polished and expressive red that captures the essence of this iconic South Australian region. Known for its terra rossa soils and cool maritime climate, Coonawarra consistently produces Cabernet with structure, purity and a distinctive leafy elegance. Heirloom’s version leans into that pedigree, offering both classic varietal character and a modern sense of refinement.
Fruit is sourced from old vine blocks in the heart of Coonawarra. After hand harvesting, fermentation takes place in small open fermenters with gentle extraction, followed by maturation in fine French oak barriques for up to 18 months. The oak is well judged and integrated, allowing the regional and varietal characters to shine.
On the nose it opens with blackcurrant, bay leaf, cedar, dark chocolate and a lift of mint. The palate is medium to full bodied, layered with cassis, blackberry, graphite and savoury spice. Tannins are firm yet fine, and there’s a long, cool finish with classic Coonawarra freshness and drive.
Food pairing: ideal with roast lamb and rosemary, chargrilled steak, eggplant and lentil moussaka or a hard cheese board with cheddar and Manchego. Also works beautifully with mushroom and thyme risotto.
Cellar potential: drinking well now with a decant but will improve over 10 to 15 years, developing cigar box, dried herb and earthy complexity.
