Jean Loron Pouilly Fuissé La Coronille is a refined and expressive Chardonnay from the heart of the Mâconnais, showcasing the elegance and mineral intensity that make this southern Burgundy appellation so compelling. Maison Jean Loron has deep roots in the region, with a history dating back to 1711. Today, it’s renowned for producing wines that combine traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with a focus on expressing individual terroirs. La Coronille is sourced from a selection of prime vineyard parcels around Pouilly and Fuissé, where limestone-rich soils and ideal sun exposure produce Chardonnay of remarkable purity and finesse.

The vineyards sit on rolling slopes with a mix of limestone, marl, and clay soils that contribute both structure and tension to the wine. The warm, sunny climate of the Mâconnais is balanced by cool nights, allowing for slow ripening and the retention of bright acidity. The grapes are hand harvested, gently pressed, and fermented partly in stainless steel to preserve freshness and partly in French oak barrels to build texture and complexity. Aging on fine lees adds creaminess and depth, while the precise use of oak imparts subtle spice without overpowering the fruit.

In the glass, La Coronille shows a brilliant pale gold colour. Aromas of white peach, ripe pear, citrus blossom, and a touch of hazelnut are lifted by hints of chalky minerality. The palate is medium bodied and beautifully balanced, with layers of stone fruit, lemon curd, and subtle toasty notes supported by vibrant acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish. It’s a wine that captures both the generosity of southern Burgundy and the precision of great Chardonnay terroir.

This Pouilly Fuissé is an excellent partner for seared scallops, grilled fish with beurre blanc, roast chicken with tarragon, or creamy pasta with mushrooms. It also pairs wonderfully with soft cheeses like Brie de Meaux or Comté. While delicious now for its vibrancy and freshness, it can develop further complexity over 5 to 8 years in the cellar.
