The Joseph Drouhin Morgon Organic from Beaujolais is a generous and expressive cru Gamay that highlights both the power of Morgon and the elegance of the Drouhin family’s winemaking. Joseph Drouhin, one of Burgundy’s most respected domaines, has extended its expertise south into Beaujolais, producing organic wines that focus on purity of fruit and terroir expression. Morgon, one of the ten Beaujolais crus, is known for producing Gamay with structure, depth and the ability to age, thanks to its granite and schist soils.
In the glass, it is a deep ruby with purple highlights. The nose is aromatic and rich, showing dark cherry, blackberry and plum alongside violet, spice and a touch of earthy minerality. On the palate it is medium-bodied and silky, with juicy dark fruit flavours framed by fine tannins and lively acidity. Subtle notes of liquorice, cocoa and savoury spice add depth, while the finish is long, fresh and slightly rustic in the classic Morgon style.
Food pairings suit its bold fruit and structure: roast duck with cherries, coq au vin, chargrilled lamb, or mushroom-based dishes like wild mushroom risotto. Semi-hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda are also excellent companions. While approachable young, this Morgon has the ability to cellar for 5 to 8 years, developing more earthy, truffle and dried flower complexity.
