Well, whoa, this is a mouthful of fun. It’s so expressive, it’s ribald. It’s wild with black pepper and bell pepper, violets and black cherries, twigs and boysenberry, with smoky, cedarwood oak also exerting a positive, integrated influence throughout. Talk about delicious, though. You open this up and it just comes at you with both barrels; honey and soy, flowers, peppers and jellied fruit bursting to all corners. I love it. Drink 2025-2030.

Ray Nadeson, a winemaker with a passion for sustainable practices and low-intervention winemaking, has crafted Lethbridge Que Syrah Syrah with a focus on purity and balance. The wine is made from 100% Syrah, sourced from the estate’s vineyards in the cool, elevated Pyrenees region. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in small batches with minimal intervention, allowing the fruit to express its natural flavors. The wine is then aged in a mix of French oak barrels, which adds complexity and structure without overpowering the fruit.
In the glass, Lethbridge Que Syrah Syrah presents a deep, dark ruby color with hints of purple, reflecting its intensity and youthful vibrancy. The nose is aromatic and inviting, with a rich blend of dark fruit aromas, including blackberry, plum, and black cherry, along with subtle notes of pepper, licorice, and smoked meats. There’s a touch of spice and earthy undertones that add complexity, giving the wine a sense of place and a true reflection of the Pyrenees terroir.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with rich, ripe fruit flavors that coat the palate. The dark fruit character is balanced by well-integrated tannins and a vibrant acidity that adds freshness and structure to the wine. The oak aging provides a subtle touch of vanilla and spice, adding depth and complexity to the mid-palate. The finish is long and smooth, with lingering dark fruit flavors and a hint of earthiness that leaves a satisfying and memorable impression.
Lethbridge Que Syrah Syrah is a versatile wine that pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes. Its bold flavors and smooth tannins make it an excellent match for grilled meats, such as lamb or beef, as well as rich, flavorful dishes like braised short ribs or roasted duck. It also pairs beautifully with hard cheeses like aged cheddar or Gouda, making it a great choice for a cheese platter or a cozy dinner.
