Longview Yakka Shiraz from the Adelaide Hills is a bold, spicy and distinctly cool-climate Shiraz that brings together power and precision in a way that’s uniquely South Australian. Named after the hardy yakka plant that thrives in the tough soils of the Adelaide Hills, this wine reflects that same resilience and intensity — structured, expressive, and deeply rooted in place.
Sourced from the Longview vineyard in Macclesfield, one of the coolest parts of the region, the fruit benefits from long ripening under cool conditions, which builds concentration without sacrificing freshness. The wine is fermented in small batches, with extended skin contact and maturation in a mix of new and older French oak for around 12 to 18 months. The result is a Shiraz that’s richly flavoured but layered with spice, savoury notes and bright acidity.
In the glass, it shows aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, cracked pepper, bay leaf and clove, with hints of dark chocolate and toasty oak. The palate is full-bodied and plush but with energy and shape — ripe black fruits are framed by fine tannins, lifted acidity and a savoury, earthy finish that speaks clearly of the Hills.
Food pairing: Excellent with slow-roast lamb shoulder, beef brisket, chargrilled eggplant with tahini, or kangaroo fillet with pepperberry sauce. Also great with aged cheddar or pecorino.
Cellar potential: Drinking beautifully now but will evolve gracefully over 8 to 12 years, gaining savoury complexity and softness.
