2022 Louis Moreau Les Fourneaux Chablis 1er Cru, ripe citrus, peach and flinty minerality with depth
From the sun exposed slopes of Les Fourneaux on the right bank of the Serein, this Premier Cru sits just below the Grand Crus and often delivers a little more generosity while holding onto that unmistakable Chablis precision. Louis Moreau, carrying forward his family’s long history in the region, focuses on purity and balance, letting vineyard and vintage speak clearly.
The 2022 vintage leans slightly richer, yet still beautifully composed. Pale gold in the glass, the aromatics are open and layered, lemon curd, ripe apple and white peach unfolding alongside white flowers, a hint of honey and a classic flinty note.
The palate shows both breadth and tension. Stone fruit and citrus glide across a softly rounded frame, with a touch of mid palate richness balanced by a firm line of acidity. There is a distinct mineral thread running through the wine, along with a gentle savoury edge that builds through the finish, giving length and complexity.
This is a natural match for seafood with a bit of weight. Grilled scallops, lobster or roast fish all work beautifully, as do poultry dishes where a buttery or creamy element comes into play.
Drinking beautifully now, though it will evolve over the next eight to twelve years, gaining further depth and a more pronounced nutty, savoury character.
There is a composed confidence here, a Premier Cru that brings together ripeness and structure, offering a fuller, more layered take on classic Chablis.
