Piccini Solco Leggero Appassimento IGT from Tuscany is a smooth, modern and generously styled red that leans into richness while keeping a surprisingly light touch. Piccini is one of Tuscany’s historic wine families, founded in 1882 and now in its fifth generation, with a long tradition of blending innovation with regional identity. Solco Leggero was created to showcase a more contemporary expression of Tuscan fruit, using partial appassimento techniques to enhance texture and depth without pushing the wine into heaviness. Selected grapes are gently dried before fermentation, concentrating flavour while preserving freshness and approachability.

The vineyards span warm Tuscan sites with excellent sun exposure, where well drained soils allow the fruit to ripen evenly and develop generous natural sweetness. The appassimento process is carefully controlled, only a portion of the fruit is dried, ensuring the final wine remains balanced, supple and easy to drink. Oak is used judiciously to round the wine rather than dominate it, keeping the focus on fruit purity and softness.

The aromatics are immediately inviting. Ripe cherry, plum and blackberry lead the way, followed by notes of dried fig, sweet spice and a hint of cocoa. There is a gentle floral lift alongside subtle vanilla and baking spice, giving the wine warmth and charm without excess sweetness.

The palate is smooth, plush and rounded. Concentrated dark fruit flows easily across soft, polished tannins, delivering flavours of black cherry, plum compote and dark chocolate. Despite the richness, the wine retains a lighter feel, with enough acidity to keep it fresh and drinkable. The finish is smooth and comforting, lingering with sweet spice and ripe fruit rather than structure or grip. It is designed for immediate enjoyment, though it will hold comfortably for several years.
