In the Langhe hills, where Nebbiolo usually dominates, the Bussiador Chardonnay from Poderi Aldo Conterno stands out as one of Piedmont’s most celebrated white wines. The estate was founded by Aldo Conterno after leaving the family winery Giacomo Conterno in the late 1960s, establishing his own property in Monforte d’Alba. Today the winery is run by Aldo’s sons, continuing a legacy of wines that combine tradition with precision. Bussiador is produced from carefully selected Chardonnay vineyards in the Langhe, where limestone rich soils and hillside exposures bring both concentration and freshness to the fruit.
The colour shows a bright golden straw hue, signalling both ripeness and depth. Aromatically the wine is rich yet refined, offering white peach, ripe pear and citrus alongside notes of pineapple, vanilla and toasted hazelnut. Subtle hints of buttered brioche and mineral freshness add further complexity.
The wine delivers impressive texture and structure, with layers of stone fruit and citrus supported by vibrant acidity. Careful oak maturation adds a creamy richness while maintaining balance and precision. Flavours of peach, lemon curd and almond develop through the wine before a long, elegant finish with lingering mineral and toasted notes.
Lobster, grilled scallops, roast chicken with herbs or creamy mushroom dishes make ideal companions. With its concentration and structure, Bussiador Chardonnay can develop beautifully in the cellar for ten to fifteen years, gaining further complexity and nutty depth over time.
