This is Tuesday-night Italian food territory in the very best sense: spaghetti Bolognese with far too much Parmesan, pork and fennel sausages, lasagne with bubbling crispy edges, eggplant parmigiana or a pepperoni pizza straight from the oven.
Tenute Rossetti is a Tuscan family producer with deep roots in central Italy, crafting approachable wines that retain the unmistakable character of their region. This Chianti is built around Sangiovese, Tuscany’s great red grape, whose natural acidity and savoury personality make it one of the world’s most brilliantly food-friendly varieties. Think less contemplation in the cellar and more big bowls of pasta on the table.
The 2022 vintage brought plenty of Tuscan sunshine, producing ripe, generous fruit while Sangiovese’s natural acidity keeps everything fresh and lively. The rolling hills and varied clay and limestone soils of central Tuscany give the wine its familiar combination of bright red fruit, dried herbs and earthy character, making this a cracking everyday introduction to Chianti.
Bright ruby in colour, the nose opens with red cherry, wild strawberry and ripe plum, followed by violet, dried oregano and a twist of pepper. With air come hints of orange peel, tobacco leaf and warm earth. The palate is juicy and wonderfully straightforward, with ripe cherry fruit framed by gentle tannins and mouthwatering acidity. A savoury streak of herbs and spice runs through to a fresh, dry finish.
