Deep red-purple colour, bright and youthful; sweet berry aromas leap from the glass, fresh and aromatic, the palate likewise fresh and bright and juicy with abundant ripe-fruit flavours and a generous backing of savoury tannins leading to a clean, dry finish that leaves you wanting more. Slight alcohol warmth in keeping with the style. This is a really smart grenache: quite delicious. 05 MAR 2023 Drink 2023–2034

This wine is inspired by the great wines of Chateauneuf du Pape in the Rhone Valley. The fruit is handpicked from two vineyards in the Barossa Valley, both approximately 80 years of age. It has been hand-made using old world winemaking techniques including whole bunch fermentation, warm ferment temperatures, and aging on yeast lees in French oak barrels with no fining or filtration.
The fruit was picked slightly earlier to avoid the cloying sweetness that Grenache can sometimes get, and to retain natural acidity. The wine shows brooding aromas of strawberry fruit, cumin seed and some orange peel. The palate is medium bodied, with a nice ‘spike’ of fruit extract backed by grape and stalk derived tannin.
