Holy terroir Batman! The 2022 twist on a GSM blend from Tim Smith emits distinct freshpotting soil, granite and black cherry skin. Mourvèdre is king here showing its rustic nature in pure black peppercorn, smoked salt and pastrami. It’s glorious in its chastity of fruit, restraint of oak and slinky palate weight. For a winemaker whose fingerprint is on the label you see a lack of winemaker fiddling and more of the site the grapes are grown and savvy timing of picking. Delicious wine and stylish as all hell. Drink with peppercorn studded salami in handfuls.

Meaty, spicy, floral, blue and black fruits, some liquorice too. It’s medium to full-bodied, spicy juicy dark berries, supple tannin, a little orange peel and aromatic dried herb, and a long savoury finish. Excellent.

65/25/10% mataro/grenache/shiraz, born of the northern parish of Kalimna. Super value here! The composition is bang on. Detailed red and black berry fruits with hints of five-spice, dried meats, black pepper, licorice, pressed flowers, softly spoken oak and earth. Supple and filigreed on the palate with wonderfully ripe fruit and fine, grippy tannins that bode well for cellaring over the medium term.

A slight twist on the classic ‘GSM’ blend, where Mataro a.k.a. Mourvèdre is the dominant variety. When fashioned in this style, we’re not only ripping off the classic Southern Rhone Provence style of wine, we’re also crafting a wine that has structure, persistence, and ageing capacity – if you’re patient enough.
