To me, the Single Wire seems to be a style that spans both contemporary and traditional. The fruit profile is blackberry, blackcurrant, dark plum and black cherry with dark spices in the form of clove, nutmeg and star anise. Hints of licorice, olive tapenade, tobacco, vanillin oak, earth, violets and pan juices. There's bright acidity that pulls the wine along and spiced plum conserve on the palate, tannins superfine and powdery and the finish showing nice sustain.

Tin Shed Wines Single Wire Shiraz from the Barossa Valley is a bold yet balanced expression of single-vineyard Shiraz, crafted with integrity and a focus on site. This wine is sourced from a dry-grown vineyard on the eastern side of the Valley, where old vines trained on a single wire trellis produce intensely flavoured fruit with natural structure and depth. It’s a wine that delivers richness, but with finesse and savoury complexity that sets it apart from heavier Barossa styles.

The fruit is hand picked and wild fermented in small open-top fermenters, with gentle extraction to preserve freshness and tannin purity. Maturation takes place in seasoned French oak barrels for around 18 months, allowing the wine to soften and integrate without losing its sense of place or varietal character.

On the nose, expect dark plum, blackberry, cocoa, cracked pepper and hints of leather and bay leaf. The palate is full bodied but composed, with concentrated black fruit, roasted spice, dark chocolate and fine-grained tannins. There’s a savoury line of earth and ironstone that runs through the wine, giving it energy and a dry, lingering finish.

Food pairing: perfect with slow-cooked beef, lamb tagine, venison, or roasted eggplant with harissa. Also excellent with hard cheeses or wild mushroom dishes.

Cellar potential: drinking well now with a decant but will reward 10 to 15 years in the cellar, developing more spice, meatiness and bottle-aged complexity.
