The 2023 Pommard Village includes 50% whole bunch. It has an understated bouquet with brambly red fruit and touches of bay leaf and undergrowth. The palate leans more toward black fruit, with gentle grip and a rounded texture, finishing fleshy and quite Volnay-like. This will drink earlier than the other cuvées.

Chanlins makes up two thirds of this cuvee with one third from La Vache (since 2022). 50% whole bunch vinification, while a bit more new wood (one third) has been used as they feel Pommard merits it. Mid purple, the fruit slightly more subdued though there is obviously plenty of it beneath. Certainly, the deep red raspberry fruit fills out the middle of the palate, with softly managed tannins at the finish. Drink from 2027-2032.

2023 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Pommard from Burgundy is a beautifully structured and expressive Pinot Noir that captures the muscular charm of Pommard while maintaining the elegance and precision that define the Bachelet-Monnot style. Run by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, this rising-star domaine has quickly earned a reputation for crafting wines of remarkable finesse, purity and transparency across both the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Their Pommard delivers a perfect balance between power and grace — rich, textural and deeply scented, yet always poised.

The fruit comes from old-vine parcels within the village of Pommard, grown on clay-limestone soils that lend the wine its hallmark depth and structure. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was generous and balanced, producing wines with vivid fruit and fine tannins. The grapes were hand harvested, sorted with precision, and fermented with a small portion of whole bunches to add aromatic lift and complexity. The wine was then matured for around 12 months in French oak barrels, around one quarter new, allowing gentle integration of oak spice and silkier tannins without overshadowing the fruit purity.

In the glass it shows a deep ruby colour. The nose opens with aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry and plum, interwoven with notes of violet, forest floor, spice and subtle mineral. On the palate it is medium bodied but concentrated, showing layers of red and dark fruit supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. There’s a touch of savoury earth and graphite, leading to a long, elegant finish that speaks clearly of Pommard’s powerful yet refined personality.

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Pommard pairs beautifully with duck breast, roast lamb, mushroom dishes, game birds or beef bourguignon. It also complements aged cheeses and truffle-infused dishes. While already harmonious, it will benefit from 5 to 12 years of cellaring, developing greater depth and silky complexity over time.
