The Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay from Beechworth is a remarkable expression of this cool-climate wine region, offering elegance, complexity, and exceptional value. Sourced from the prestigious Indigo Vineyard, this Chardonnay reflects the meticulous craftsmanship of Brokenwood’s winemaking team, led by Chief Winemaker Simon Steele.

Brokenwood, an iconic Australian winery established in 1970, is celebrated for its commitment to quality and innovation. Originally founded in the Hunter Valley, Brokenwood has expanded its reach to include outstanding vineyard sites across Australia, including Beechworth, where the cool climate and granite soils create ideal conditions for Chardonnay.

The Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay is an aromatic and balanced wine. On the nose, it reveals enticing aromas of white peach, nectarine, and citrus zest, layered with notes of almond, subtle vanilla, and a hint of flinty minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with a creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and flavors of stone fruits, lemon curd, and a touch of hazelnut. A refined oak influence enhances complexity without overpowering the wine’s purity, leading to a long, elegant finish.

Beechworth has gained a reputation as one of Australia’s premier regions for Chardonnay, and the Indigo Vineyard is no exception. While it offers exceptional quality at a reasonable price, some of the region’s more famous Chardonnays—such as those from Giaconda—are significantly more expensive, making the Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay an outstanding alternative for those seeking premium Beechworth Chardonnay without the premium price tag.

This wine pairs beautifully with dishes such as grilled lobster, roast chicken, or creamy mushroom pasta. It also complements soft cheeses like brie or washed-rind varieties. While approachable now, the Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay can develop further complexity over the next 5–7 years, making it a wine that rewards both immediate enjoyment and cellaring.
