The 2023 Riesling Wachenheim Goldbächel P.C. is from two parcels on Triassic sandstone, one with great water availability and the other drier, vinified separately. A lovely hint of wood creaminess on the nose moves onto a beautifully zesty yet creamy palate that is alive and so bright yet beautifully approachable with that creamy, smooth vibe of fresh, wet hazelnut. It is elegant and charming, with more zest on the finish. (Bone-dry)

92-94 points Anne Krebiehl MW for Vinous July 2024

Nestled in the heart of Germany's Pfalz region, Weingut Dr. Bürklin-Wolf is one of the country's most historic and influential estates. Founded in 1597, the winery has been a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture and terroir focused winemaking, helping to redefine the reputation of German dry Riesling. The P.C. classification, or Premier Cru, highlights vineyards of exceptional quality, and Goldbächel is one of Wachenheim's most distinctive sites.

The Goldbächel vineyard benefits from a mix of sandstone, loam and limestone influenced soils that give the wine both richness and precision. The warm Pfalz climate allows Riesling to achieve impressive flavour concentration while retaining vibrant acidity and freshness. The 2023 vintage delivered fruit of outstanding purity, producing a wine that beautifully balances generosity with structure.

Pale straw with brilliant green highlights, the bouquet reveals aromas of lime blossom, white peach and green apple layered with notes of citrus zest, jasmine and wet stone. The palate is dry, focused and beautifully textured, offering flavours of lime, grapefruit and ripe orchard fruits supported by bright acidity and a pronounced mineral backbone. There is excellent concentration throughout, while the finish is long, savoury and precise, lingering with citrus and stony complexity.

This is a superb partner for grilled prawns, pork schnitzel, smoked trout, sushi, roast chicken or a goat's cheese tart. Equally rewarding as an aperitif, it showcases the energy, depth and food friendly nature that have made dry German Riesling so admired by wine lovers worldwide.
