Another palish crimson. Much less perfume than the Chassagne Champgains. A little more depth of vivid raspberry through the middle, firmer tannins and fair length. Drink from 2028-2034. Tasted Oct 2024.
90-92 points Jasper Morris MW Inside Burgundy
Grèves is one of Beaune’s most revered Premier Crus, a broad sweep of sandy, gravelly soils that tend to give Pinot Noir a more open, perfumed style with fine, silky tannins. In the hands of Caroline Morey, that natural elegance is handled with restraint and clarity. While she’s best known for her whites, her reds show the same thoughtful approach, gentle extraction, careful élevage and a focus on purity rather than weight.
The 2023 is all about finesse. Red cherry, wild strawberry and a touch of raspberry lead, followed by rose petal, a hint of spice and a subtle earthy note that adds depth. It feels lifted and expressive, with a supple texture and finely woven tannins that glide rather than grip. There’s a quiet structure underneath, enough to carry the wine through a long, fragrant finish without ever feeling heavy.
This is a beautiful match for dishes that echo that sense of elegance. Duck with a light cherry glaze, quail with herbs, or even a dish built around roasted beetroot and spice all work well. It also pairs nicely with mushroom driven dishes where earthiness meets that bright red fruit.
Enjoy it now with a little air, or hold for 6 to 10 years as it develops more savoury complexity and depth while keeping its silky shape.
