Bodegas Castro Martín is one of the established names of Rías Baixas, with a family winemaking history dating back to 1887. Based in the Salnés Valley, close to Galicia's Atlantic coast, the estate specialises in Albariño, producing whites that capture the region's maritime freshness and lively personality.
The 2023 comes from a landscape of granite soils, coastal breezes and generous rainfall, conditions that suit Albariño beautifully. Careful handling in the winery preserves the grape's fragrant fruit and naturally bright acidity, creating a white with plenty of flavour but a wonderfully refreshing finish.
Pale straw yellow with bright green reflections. Fresh lime, white peach and crisp green apple mingle with orange blossom, grapefruit and a hint of sea spray. The palate is juicy and energetic, with ripe citrus, delicate stone fruit and a subtle mineral texture. A gentle saline character and mouthwatering acidity carry through the clean, persistent finish.
A natural partner for Galician seafood, particularly grilled octopus with smoked paprika, steamed clams with garlic and parsley, or freshly shucked oysters. It would also be delicious with zucchini and feta fritters, or a Vietnamese green mango salad with prawns and fresh herbs.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2029. Its lively citrus and coastal freshness are particularly appealing while young.
