Charles Melton Domaine Sophie Claire Riesling is a finely detailed and vibrant white wine crafted from premium fruit sourced from both Eden Valley and the Adelaide Hills. This blend of regions brings together the floral lift and citrus intensity of Eden Valley with the cool-climate precision and minerality of the Adelaide Hills. It is a refreshing departure from Charles Melton’s Barossa red wine fame, showcasing his skill with elegant, aromatic whites under the Domaine Sophie Claire label, named for his daughter.
The grapes are hand picked and gently pressed, with fermentation in stainless steel to retain freshness, purity and natural acidity. No oak is used and there is no malolactic fermentation, resulting in a crisp, linear Riesling with clarity and drive.
On the nose, it opens with classic notes of lime zest, lemon blossom and green apple, supported by subtle hints of jasmine and wet stone. The palate is dry and zippy, with concentrated citrus flavours, bright acidity and a long, mineral finish that reflects its cool climate origins. This wine is all about focus and finesse.
Perfect with fresh oysters, Thai salads, grilled prawns or a simple goat cheese tart. It drinks beautifully now and will develop complex honeyed and toasty notes over the next 8 to 10 years.
