Longview Macclesfield Gruner Veltliner from the Adelaide Hills is a crisp, textural white that brings an Austrian classic into vivid Australian focus. Grown in the high-altitude, cool-climate subregion of Macclesfield, this wine captures the variety’s trademark freshness and spice with a uniquely South Australian accent.
Longview was one of the early adopters of Gruner Veltliner in Australia, and the site is ideal for it. Elevated vineyards, clay-loam soils, and long, cool ripening conditions help build intensity without sacrificing acidity. Winemaking is all about preserving that tension—cool fermentation in stainless steel and a short stint on lees add finesse and a gentle creamy texture.
Aromatically it’s full of citrus peel, green pear, crushed white pepper and hints of fennel and fresh herbs. On the palate it’s taut and mineral, with a line of bright acidity running through a core of nashi pear, lime and wet stone. It finishes dry and long, with that lovely signature pepper twist.
Fantastic with Vietnamese rice paper rolls, grilled calamari, asparagus with lemon butter or even a crispy chicken schnitzel. Best enjoyed young and bright, but will evolve nicely over 3 to 5 years.
