Croix & Courbet is the collaboration between two old friends, David Croix of Burgundy and Damien Courbet of the Jura. Their wines marry a Burgundian appreciation for texture and finesse with the distinctive character of the Jura's vineyards. Savadonnay is a particularly intriguing creation, combining the region's two celebrated white varieties, Savagnin and Chardonnay.
The 2023 draws on the natural richness of Chardonnay and the vibrant acidity and savoury character of Savagnin. Together they create a wine with an appealing balance of fruit, texture and freshness, capturing the Jura's distinctive personality without sacrificing elegance.
Pale gold with bright straw highlights. Ripe pear, preserved lemon and white peach mingle with chamomile, toasted almond and a hint of fresh herbs. The palate is beautifully textured, with juicy orchard fruit, lively citrus acidity and a subtle savoury nuttiness. A gentle saline character adds interest to the long, mouthwatering finish.
Try it with grilled squid and smoked paprika, a leek and Comté gratin, or roasted cauliflower with miso and sesame. Its combination of richness and freshness also makes it a terrific partner for pan fried snapper with lemon and capers.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2033. Its acidity and savoury structure should reward several years of careful cellaring.
